Bettering ourselves on a consistent, daily basis is one way we can practically serve our clients better, but as anyone in the workforce knows, it can be difficult to focus on personal development with all our daily responsibilities.
I was watching an episode of The Office (S7 Ep. 13, “Ultimatum”) where Pam tries to set up a New Year’s Resolution board to help motivate her coworkers to meet their goals. Needless to say, her idea crashed and burned, but she said something that really stuck with me:
“One of the hardest parts about making resolutions is keeping them. In fact, most resolutions are abandoned by February … But that’s ok. Because it’s not about being perfect, it’s about trying.”
This line is super corny, but to someone working in the tech field without a Computer Science background, that’s a really powerful statement. I’ve only been with Credera a few months, but I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve failed or gotten something completely wrong. Working at Credera has shown me that growth isn’t a linear path or something you simply achieve in a day or week; growth comes from constantly challenging yourself when given the opportunity.
Sometimes that challenge can get overwhelming, and that’s why it’s important to have goals. Having a goal helps you stay on track and keeps your head on straight when the going gets rough. Goals also keep you accountable for an actual deliverable and something to strive towards. Trying to grow without an end goal in sight can actually be counterproductive to one’s development.
While growth has been challenging at times, I’m grateful I’m starting my career at Credera because they’ve set me up for success. My mentor helped me create a career path and list of milestones to strive for during my first year as a consultant. My coworkers are some of the smartest people I’ve met, and working alongside really bright minds keeps me motivated to elevate myself to their level.
My current goal is to become an AWS Certified Developer by the end of the year, and Credera is playing a huge role in my endeavor. I can expense any training material I use, and my Practice Lead has found opportunities on my current project for me to use AWS and become more comfortable with this technology. Having goals and a strong support group has made the past several months at Credera extremely rewarding.
Credera’s goal is to grow rapidly over the next several years, and I’m really excited to see where that takes us. Growing pains are going to be part of that process, but it will be fulfilling to overcome those obstacles together as friends and family.
This November we are focusing on growth at Credera. Individuals in the company are writing out our goals and sharing them online! Do you have goals, resolutions, or challenges you’re facing? Share them with us using the hashtag #LifeAtCredera on Instagram and Twitter!
