Credera’s President Shares With Forbes About the Importance of Listening
With talent acquisition and employee engagement top of mind for many in today’s competitive talent market, Credera turned to Glassdoor to better understand what makes an organization highly attractive to employees and job seekers. After analyzing hundreds of anonymous Glassdoor reviews, our team found that the number one aspect contributing to high or low employer reviews was the level of trust in leadership.
At a time when one-third of senior leaders list finding and retaining top talent their most significant management challenge, leaders cannot ignore the importance of fostering trust. A great place to start is with listening. In a recent Forbes article, “Listening Is an Underrated Leadership Tool,” Credera President Justin Bell shares why developing great listening skills has become a priority for him.
In the article, Bell shares how he is implementing these five deliberate practices into his leadership style:
Ask open-ended questions.
Create space and time.
Seek feedback frequently.
Engage on a personal level.
Seek to understand your team’s unique goals and passions.
With such a vast amount of responsibility and strategic oversight across all of Credera’s practice areas and offices, Bell’s calendar is typically packed. Yet he explains that taking the time to intentionally listen is something he simply cannot ignore:
“In the end, we all want to cultivate environments where top talent can thrive. If leadership is the magnet that attracts and retains top talent, we cannot neglect practices that help us develop into greater, more connected leaders—even practices like listening that may feel tedious. As much as technology connects us, there is no more powerful form of communication than two people listening to each other.”
