Q&A With Kara Williams
What were you doing prior to joining Credera?
Prior to Credera, I lived and worked on four continents for some of the largest global consulting firms and, most recently, a small firm headquartered in Denver, where I was empowered to grow as a leader and serve our Denver community.
What led to your decision to join?
First, Credera’s culture. I’ve affectionately called my path to Credera a meaningful courtship. It was worth every minute of the nearly three years to get here.
Second, I’m excited to join at a time when I can really help grow our people and the Credera brand.
How would you describe your approach to leadership?
In cycling, riding as a group is called a peloton. The front riders take the brunt of the wind and force and create less resistance for the rest of the pack. The peloton works as a unit, with riders from the back cycling up to the front to take their turn. Sometimes this means the back of the pack needs a little more help to keep the pace. When we climb, riders have been known to put their hand on the back of those who are struggling. My approach to leadership is to be the hand on your back and empower you to push to a place you never thought possible.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
Find people who will give you honest feedback and actively seek that feedback regularly. It is easy to keep our heads down and focus on working hard, but the best improvements come when we stop, look around, ask, and take in new information and perspectives.
What are you most excited about now that you’re a part of the Credera team?
Do I really have to pick one thing? If so, I’m most excited that I joined with two other female partners at a time when Credera is taking action toward making our leadership team and firm reflect who we see in our communities. The learning, growth, and relationships we foster in the coming years will be a valuable asset to our people, clients, and communities.
