Every year, Credera holds a company-wide Service Day that gives employees the opportunity to engage in volunteer activities that create a meaningful impact. Past partnerships have included Mercy Street, World Vision, and Habitat for Humanity. During 2017, Credera partnered once again with Habitat for Humanity in Dallas, Houston, and Denver.
For the first time in Service Day history, Credera committed to building a home from start to finish in West Dallas with Dallas Habitat for Humanity. Over the course of several months and 10 build days, teams of Credera employees served alongside Habitat and the Suarez family. From an empty lot to a home with a roof, Credera staff were there every step of the way.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity partners with people in local communities and all over the world, to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Habitat for Humanity not only engages volunteers to construct homes, they build communities and hope along the way. Through Habitat, homeowners have the opportunity to achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to launch a better life for themselves and their families.
Consultant Allison De La Torre shares more on the empowering process of receiving a home from Habitat for Humanity: “Habitat requires that each family puts in at least 200 hours of ‘sweat equity’. It isn’t just a give-away.”
A Greater Purpose
“A lot of people from Credera were out of their element,” says architect Bernard Buentipo. “Some people had never worked with power tools, but we were all there for another purpose—a purpose greater than ourselves.”
From consultant to partner, everyone participated, giving 110% to serve the Suarez family, even when it was out of their comfort zone. As someone who was fairly new to Credera at the time, it was encouraging to learn firsthand that I was surrounded by an incredible group of colleagues who have a servant-leader mindset. Now that I’ve been at Credera for several months, I’ve been able to experience several times over how that service-first mentality applies not only to giving back to the community, but transfers to everyday interactions with teams and clients.
There is something special to be said about a company that values giving back and serving others. There’s something even more special about being a part of a company that gives you opportunities to play a part in changing someone’s life for the better.
“When I first walked into my home, I was very excited,” says new homeowner Jessica Suarez. “I was in disbelief and couldn’t believe that this was really happening to me and my children.”
